Indians open the State Championships with a win over #1 seed Victory Honda 4-1
The Indians came determined to make their mark and stick to their game plan against Victory Honda and took advantage of some hard forechecking when John Pesek jumped a loose puck that Chris Hazen had worked out of the corner and put a shot over the Honda goalie to open the scoring and kept a 1-0 lead through the first period. Early in the second Ashton Calder won the battle in front of the net banging home a lose puck that was assisted by Hazen again, Honda responded with a goal of their own quickly to get back within 1. Chris Hazen decided it was time for him to score a goal for himself at the 10 minute mark from Blake Mastaw and Drew Goupille, Mike Miller finished out the scoring in the second period from Cole Lussier and the teams went to the dressing room after the second period with the Indians up 4-1. In the third CJ Boothe shut the door on Victory Honda and the Indians took the win. Boothe played outstanding in the net and the entire team played excellent to secure their first win of the tournament.
The Indians will now faceoff tomorrow against the Oakland Grizzilies in second game of the Round robin portion of the tournament.
