Indians bounce back for a 2-1 win over Meijer AAA

In the Sunday rematch the Indians came out determined from the beginning and on the first shift of the game Tiger Weber out muscled the Meijer defender and put the puck into the net 40 seconds into the game for the early lead, assists went to Spencer DenBeste and Justin Moyle.  The Indians added to their lead when Jacob Hubbard chipped the puck past the Meijer defenseman to Kyle Lake who went in two on one and put a wrist shot past their goalie for 2-0 lead midway through the second period.  Meijer got the board late in the second period to cut the lead in half with 3 minutes remaining the second period.  Both teams challenged each other throughout the third period however both goalies were up for the task and shut the door giving the Indians the 2-1 win in the designated Michigan Amatuer Hockey Tier 1 Elite game.  The win gives the Indians a 2 win 3 loss record in MAHA Tier 1 league putting them in 5th place in the nine team league.  Aidan Curry placed outstanding to secure the win in net.
The Indians returned to action next Saturday and Sunday 3pm and 10am respectively for two more MAHA League games against the Oakland Grizzlies from Detroit.

Meijer AAA scores 5 to top the Indians

The Saturday game had the Indians opening the scoring when Spencer DenBeste forced the puck in the Meijer end giving Spencer Silver an open net for 1-0 lead.  Meijer came back in the second period  to score two, which they carried till the end of the period.  In the Third period Meijer added two more before the Indains Zak Lasley made an end to end rush scoring to get them back within two, however Meijer answer back with their 5th of the evening and a 5-2 win.  Jordan Lawday was in net for the Indians in a losing effort.
Both teams return to action tomorrow at 10 am Taffy Abel Arena

Barrie Invitational Tournament Recap

The Barrie Invitational Tournament proved to be a good and heartbreaking weekend for the Indians.  Friday morning the Indians got caught by the Richmond Hill Coyotes in the opening game as the Coyotes jumped out to an early lead in the first period and continued to build on it in the final two period to take a 5-0 win over the indians.  Aidan Curry was in the net for the Indians.  The second game the tribe finally found some offense against the Central Ontario Wolves and Brendan Miller opened the scoring from Spencer DenBeste, seconds later DenBeste scored one of his own from Spencer Silver for a 2-0 at the end of the first period.  Late in the second Georg Landro scored from Hayden Clark for the 3-0 lead.  Central Ontario scored two early in the period, how Spencer Silver scored unassisted to regain a two goal lead.  Brendan Miller added another goal from Landro and Zak Lasley finished out the scoring from Kyle Lake and Tiger Weber for the 6-2 win.  Jordan Lawday took the win in net.  The third game turned out to be a great battle between the Indians and Toronto Marlboros, both teams played even through first period and Spencer Silver gave the Indians a 1-0 late in the second period, assists going to Zak Lasley and Kalvin Hillock.  Early in the third the Marlboros finally got one past Aidan Curry in the Indian net to get back to even, from that point on neither team could score and the game ended at 1-1.  The final game of the round robin portion of the tournament had the Indians playing the Greater Kingston Jr Frontenacs and the Indians responded great to take an early lead on a goal by Georg Landro from Spencer DenBeste and Spencer Silver, in the second period Brendan Miller lite the lamp from Landro and Silver.  Landro scored his second of the game late in the third from Tiger Weber and Kyle Lake for the 3-0 win.  Aidan Curry got the shutout and win in net.
The Indians finished the tournament with 2 wins 1 loss and a tie, however due to the tie breaking method of the goals for and against missed making the semi finals by .0007 :(
The team returned home Sunday and will have a week off before Meijer AAA will come to the Sault for a pair of games on November 26 and 27, 5pm and 10am respectively.

Soo's hopes at the Bauer end in a 4-2 loss to the Minnesota Blades

In winner take all game the Indians and Blades played even through the first period of the game, The Blades opened the scoring on powerplay in the second period, however the Indians fought back and Spencer DenBeste buried a nice passing play from Zak Lasley and Spencer Silver to even the game at one a piece.  Late in the period the Blades scored to regain the lead going into the third period.  The Blades added to their lead late in the period, however Indians put on a charge and didn't give up, Denbeste got his second of the game winning a fight for the puck in front of their to get back within one goal, however with the net empty the Blades  got a puck into the open net solidifying the win.  Aidan Curry played outstanding in net stopping 37 shots.
The Indians head to Toronto next weekend for the Barrie Tournament.

Iowa scores six to top the Indians

The Indians put an early surge on the Iowa goaltender in the first period but couldn't buy a goal and again in the final seconds of a period the Iowa Wild popped one past the Indians netminder to take 1-0 lead at the end of the period.  In the second period the Wild continued to capitalize on their opportunities and stretched the lead to 4-0 through two periods.  The Indians finally got one past their netminder on shot by Justin Hendrickson assisted by Kyle Lake, Iowa came right back and scored two more before Hendrickson found Nolan Slachetka open in the neutral zone and sent him in on a breakaway to score.  Jordan Lawday and Aidan Curry shared the duties between the pipes for the pipes.

The Indians now will play either the Janesville Jets or Minnesota Blades in the first round of the sweet sixteen finalists at 5pm CST tonight, winner will move on to the quarterfinals tomorrow
