Indians Announce New Coaching Staff

 Jeremy Rebek, Soo Indians Midget AAA Head Coach

General Manager of Soo Indians Midget AAA, Mike Kaunisto, is pleased to announce, Jeremy Rebek as the new Head Coach of Soo Indians for the 2016-17 season.  Joe Greener will assist Rebek.  Rebek will bring in another assistant, which will be announced in the near future.

Rebek has spent the past two years as an Assistant Coach with the Soo Thunderbirds Junior A Team of the NOJHL where he was a part of the program’s league champions for the last two years and Dudley Hewitt Cup Finalists.  Prior to his time with The Soo Thunderbirds, he spent eleven seasons playing pro hockey in the AHL, ECHL and European Leagues.  Rebek spent three seasons with the OHL Owen Sound Platers. “We are extremely pleased to have Jeremy leading our program,” stated Kaunisto. “His vast coaching and playing experience throughout the hockey community will greatly benefit our players and our program.”

Greener hails from the United Kingdom, where he played pro hockey for the past eight years.  His final two seasons he was named player/coach for the Basingstoke Bisons.  Greener also played four seasons in the North American Hockey League for the Soo Indians, Traverse City North Stars and Cleveland Barons.  Greener is a Soo Indians Midget AAA alumni, playing two seasons for the club.  “Joe was a hard nosed, gritty player, who will bring energy and enthusiasm to the club.  Joe’s dedication to the organization and commitment to the players will be instrumental in moving players to the next level.”

MacLaren sets points record

Brenden MacLaren from Sault Ste Marie Michigan broke the all time Soo Indians points record with 141 points over 3 seasons with the team.  MacLaren finished this season with a impressive 34 goals and 36 assists for 70 points in 56 games. Maclaren has signed with the Janesville Jets of the North American Hockey League to play next Season.

Congratulations to Soo Indian alumni Frankie Pucci in making his playoff appearance with Soo Greyhounds

Frankie made his first playoff appearance for the Soo Greyhounds against the Sarnia Sting getting his first goal in that series.

Congratulations to Ethan St.Germain signing with Soo Thunderbirds

Ethan St.Germain of the Soo Indians has signed his letter to play with the Soo Thunderbirds of the NOJHL.  In the 2015-16 season Ethan scored 17 goals 27 assists in 51 games while playing both forward and defense.  Ethan is a hardnose player that isn't afraid to go to the dirty areas of the ice.  The Thunderbirds are currently one of the top teams in Canada.  The Indians wish Ethan the best of luck and know he will excel in the next level.

Soo Indians Bid Farewell to Carricato

After three seasons behind the bench with the Soo Indians Midget AAA Hockey Club, Coach Patrick Carricato is leaving the club to pursue other opportunities.  Carricato leaves the Indians with a record of 88-77-14 and led the team to three state final appearances.  Assistant GM, Rick Corbiere, states, "We appreciate all of Pat's hard work and dedication to the team over the past three seasons and wish him well in his future endeavours." 

The Soo Indians administrative team are now seeking a qualified coach (Level 4 or higher coaching certification) who is willing and able to motivate young players to achieve their goals and work to improve their game, on and off the ice.  Contact Mike Kaunisto on 906-440-0157 for more information.
