2016-17 tryouts for the Soo Indians have been set for the weekend of June 17-19

In the final game of the 2015-16 season the Indians opened the scoring when Ethan St.Germain put a shot under the arm of the Grizzlies goalie, assisted by Brenden MacLaren and Spencer DenBeste. Oakland came back with a power play goal in the second to even the score at 1 a piece through two periods. In the third Oakland found the net scoring three quick goals for a a 4-1 lead then added another late for the final score of 5-1. Shaun Brown was in net for the Indians stopping 30 shots.
In the second game of the MAHA State Championships the Indians jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Jonathon Bostwick banged home a rebound on a powerplay late in the first period for the lead. Caesars roared back to go up by one goal by the end of the second period. In the third Caesars add two goals before Nick Skaluba scored on a shot from the point from Brenden MacLaren and Spencer Denbeste to get back within two goals, however that was all they could muster and fell 4-2. Will Hartwick stopped 34 shots in a losing effort, the Indians will face off against the Oakland Grizzlies in the final game of the 2015-16 season at 3pm tomorrow.
In the openng game of the MAHA state Championships the Indians got caught flat footed in the first period and Victory Honda scored 4 unanswered goals in the first period for a commanding lead. In the second period Brenden MacLaren scored on a pass from Drew Goupille and Ethan St.Germain to get on the board, however that was all they could muster. In the third period Victory Honda added one more for a 5-1 final score. Will Hartwig and Shaun Brown shared duties stopping 38 shots between them. The Indians will now play Little Caeasars at 3pm today in the second game of the round robin portion of the tournament.
On Sunday morning both teams played even through the first period, in the second however Honeybaked jumped out to 2-0 lead before Jonathon Bostwick outworked the defender in the corner and took the puck to the net putting a shot past their goaltender to cut their lead to one. Honeybaked answered back again to go two by the end of the second period. In the third the Indians started quick scoring 59 seconds in when Dylan Cook put a shot from the point past the goaltender, assisted by Zach Ahola and Brendan Miller. Honeybaked again stretched the lead to two before Justin Hendrickson scored on another shot from the point assisted by Ahola and Bostwick. This time the Indians Ethan St.Germain scored to even the score at 4 apiece from Brenden MacLaren. Honeybaked scored what would be the eventual game winner on powerplay and then added a shorthanded and empty net goal to solify the win and a final score of 7-4. Shaun Brown took the loss in net for the Indians.
The Indians will be off the next weekend before the travel to Detriot on Wednesday March 9th for the Michigan Amatuer Hockey State Championships in Taylor Michigan.
