Thursday night the Indians opened the Silver Sticks tournament in Sarnia Ontario against the Waterloo Wolves and ended up battling to a 2-2 tie. Max Povoronoznuik scored the opening goal for the Indians from Seth Francois and Jaden Martin, then Chase Tallaire added to the lead from PJ Donnelly and Grant Wickham for a 2-0 lead heading into the third period. In the Third Waterloo fought back getting two goals to even the score for a 2 all tie. Gabe Rosek played excellent in the net for the Indians. On Friday the game played out much the same as the Indians tied the London Knights 2-2, this time the Indians had to come from behind after falling behind by two early. Jaden Martin scored from Chase Tallaire and PJ Donnelly and Cain Grosbeck evened the score from Robbie Landis, after that neither team could get the winner and the game again ended in a 2 all tie. Logan Raffaele was outstanding for the Indians in net. Saturdays first game matched the Indians against the Ontario Hockey Academy from Cornwall Ontario, early in the game Kevin Bostwick scored on a power play from Chase Tallaire and PJ Donnelly, however OHA added three unanswered goals in the second to jump on to the lead. Tallaire added a goal of his own get one closer from Max Povoronzuik and Jaden Martin, however that was all they could muster and fell by a score of 5-2. Gabe Rosek was between the pipes for the Indians. Saturdays second match up put the Indians up against Blyth Hockey Academy and this game the Indians found their scoring tough putting up six goals, first Tommy Cahill scored from Cain Grosbeck and Kevin Smith, Grosbeck scored from Kevin Bostwick and Cahill. Grant Wickham continued the scoring in the second period assisted by PJ Donnelly and Chase Tallaire, then Donnelly scored from Wickham and Tallaire to secure a 4 goal lead heading into the third period. In the final period Grosbeck scored his second of the game from Smith and Nick Castillo, the final goal was scored by Jaden Martin, assisted by Tallaire and Bostwick to secure the 6-0 win. Logan Raffaele earned the win and shutout in net for the Indians. In the semi final game the Indians had a rematch with the Waterloo Wolves and turned to be much the same as the first meeting, Nick Castillo scored in the first period from PJ Donnelly and Grant Wickham. In the second Waterloo tied the game up and went ahead by one before Chase Tallaire scored from Kevin Bostwick and Donnelly to knot the game at 2 a piece. The third saw both teams trade chances but both goaltenders turned them away and at the end of regulation it was 2-2. Overtime proved to be exciting as the format was three on three which lasted into the third overtime before the Wolves player beat the Indians defender and went in to score in the six period for the win. Gabe Rosek played outstanding in net.
The Indians will get back on the road next Saturday when they travel to Lansing to play Meijer AAA in MAHA action.
