Indians go 1 win 3 loses at the Honeybaked Showcase

At the Honeybaked showcase in Detroit the Indians faced off against four top ranked team from the East Coast. Friday opening game pitted them against the New Jersey Hitman, Kevin Smith opened the scoring for the Indians early in the game set up by Kevin Bostwick and Max Povorozniuk for the lead, but the Hitman fought back to tie the game, then Bostwick scored one of his own from Jack Swan.  Late in the period the Hitman scored two goals putting them up by one which proved to be enough for the win. Saturday morning the Indians took on the Islander Hockey Club from New York, Seth Francois got the Indians on the board early in this game from Cain Grosbeck, then Midway through the second period Tommy Cahill added to the lead to put the Indians up 2-0.  The Islanders managed to get one back however Gabe Rosek closed the door to take the win in net. Saturdays second game proved to be a close game against the Skipjacks as the both teams skated even throughout the first half then the Skipjacks jumped out to a 2-0 lead before Tommy Cahill found the net from Jaden Martin to get the Indians back within one goal.  However they couldn't manage to add any more and fell 2-1.  Sundays final game of the weekend was against the New Hampshire Jr Monarhs proved to be a battle as the Indians had to play short due to injuries.  The Monarchs opened the scoring but Tommy Cahill evened the score on a goal from Nick Castillo and Grant Wickham.  The Monarchs then scored four unanswered goals before Jaden Martin got the Indians back on track from Cahill and Kyle Portlock, then Cahill scored his second the game, set up by Chase Tallaire, however with the net empty the Monarchs managed to score giving them the 6-3 win.  Logan Raffaele was in net the Indians.

The Indians will be back on the road to Sarnia Ontario next weekend to participate in the Silver Sticks Tournament.

Tallaire Tenders with the Maryland Black Bears of the NAHL

Chase Tallaire has signed a tender agreement with the Maryland Black Bears of the North American Hockey League.  Tallaire in his third season with the Indians has become a steady point producer, In 148 games Chase has scored 35 goals adding 47 assists for 82 points.  Chase recently travelled to Maryland to skate and play with the Black Bears after which they liked his skill and play signing him to a tender.  Head scout Jason Deskins commented that the Black Bears are excited to get a player like Chase and look forward to him playing in their organization.  The entire Soo Indians staff are proud of Chase's hard work and wish him the best of luck in the next step in his hockey career.

Rosek shuts the door to lead the Indians to 3-0 win over Honeybaked

Sunday morning in a must win game the Indians responded with an entire team effort to win 3-0 over Honeybaked out of Detroit.  The first had both teams traded scoring opportunities but the goaltenders stood tall turning away all the shots sent their way.  In the second period Nick Castillo jumped up into the play on 2 on 1 taking a pass from Tommy Cahill and Jack Swan beating the netminder high to give the Indian the lead.  Early in the third period Kevin Smith scored after going hard to the net on a pass from Wickham beating their netminder to put the Indians ahead by two and with one minute remaining Wickham added a goal of his own on the backhand set up by Chase Tallaire and Jaden Martin for the third and goal and seal the win for the Indians.

Gabe Rosek played outstanding in the net turning away 30 shots earning the shutout and win

The Indians now will go back on the road to Detroit for the Honeybaked Showcase where they will take on the New Jersey Hitmen Friday night at 8:10pm, then play the Islanders Hockey Club 11:25am and York Skipjacks 6:50pm Saturday. Sunday the final game will be at 8:10am against the New Hampshire Jr Monarchs, all games are at the Fraser Hockeyland arena.

Honeybaked tops the Indians 6-3

Saturday night the Indians opened fast against Honeybaked taking a 2-0 lead.  First Chase Tallaire took a pass from Grant Wickham and Jaden Martin to break in and beat their netminder less than a minute into the game, then late in the first period Kevin Bostwick beat the Honey bake netminder on a shot from the point on the power play to go up 2-0, Tommy Cahill and Wickham had assists.  With less than a minute remaining in the first period Honeybaked scored two quick goals to make the score even after the first period.  In the second Honeybaked took their first lead midway through the period, and early in the third added another before Tallaire got the Indians back on the board after being sprung for a breakaway by Cain Grossbeck, also assisted by Kyle Portlock.  Less than a minute later Honeybaked answer back to regain the two goal lead and added an empty net goal for the final score of 6-3.  Logan Raffaele turned away 28 shot in a losing effort.

The teams will face off again Sunday morning 10am at the Taffy Abel arena.

Thunder Bay turns the table with a 2-0 win over the Indians

Saturday morning the Kings came out on top with 2-0 win over the Indians in the second game of the series.  Both teams played even through two periods, however the third ended up being all Thunder Bay as they scored two unanswered goals late in the third to take the win.  Gabe Rosek played outstanding in net turning away 40 shots in a losing effort.

The Indians will return to action today 430 at the Pullar Staduim to take on Honeybaked in MAHA league action.
