Indians open the weekend with a 4-1 win over Meijer AAA

Saturday night proved to be a up and down close checking game in the first period with both teams exchanging good scoring chances but both goaltenders stood tall, in the second Nick Castillo joined the rush and beat the Meijer netminder to give the Indians a 1-0 lead, assists going to Kevin Smith and Max Povorozniouk.  Cain Grosbeck added to the lead on a power play set up by Castillo and Chase Tallaire, finally PJ Donnelly scored with 37 seconds remaining in the period from Grosbeck and Kyle Portlock to give the Indians a 3-0 lead heading into the third period.  Meijer didn't stop pressing the third and with their net empty they got on the board, however Tommy Cahill put the Indians back up by three with an empty net goal of his own from Kobie Guidebeck and Kevin Smith to secure the win for the Indians.  Gabe Rosek turned away 33 shots to earn the win in net for the Indians.

Both teams will be back on the ice tomorrow morning 1030am at the Taffy Abel arena for the second game of the series.

Soo Indians weekend game schedule

This Saturdays game versus Meijer AAA has been moved to the Pullar Stadium at 630 pm, Sundays game will be 1030 am at the Taffy Abel Arena.  Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Indians get swept by number 13 ranked Belle Tire

Saturday morning the Indians opened a three game stand against the highly ranked Belle Tire team from Detroit and the proved their position by taking a 5-0 win over the Indians in the early game.  In the Saturday night rematch the Indians were determined to regroup and went toe to toe with the Belle Tire team.  Belle Tire opened the scoring midway through the first period, however PJ Donnelly answered right back to even things up assisted by Rob Landis.  Bell Tire regained the lead early in second on a power play, however the Indians answered back again on an unassisted goal by Grant Wickham, then early in the third the Wickham scored his second of the game off a face off win by Tommy Cahill to take the lead midway through the third period.  The Indians fought hard but Belle Tire managed to tie the game up, then scored with 7 minutes remaining and held off any scoring attempts by the Indians to secure the 4-3.  On Sunday morning Belle Tire jumped out to an early lead and never looked back scoring 4 unanswered goals in the first period before the Indians got going.  Seth Francios got the Indians on the scoresheet in second period, set up by Dylan Bott and Max Povorozniouk, then Jack Swan scored in the third from Jaden Martin couldn't muster any more and fell by a score of 8-2.  Gabe Rosek and Logan Raffaele split duties in the net on the weekend facing many shots from the offensively gifted team.

The Indians will have the upcoming weekend off, then return to the Taffy Abel arena on November 28 and 29 to take on Meijer AAA

Indians split on the road with Fox Motors

Saturday the Indians couldn't break the ice and fell to Fox by a score of 2-0.   On Sunday morning Fox jumped out to the early lead on a bad bounce of the glass, however they battled back to even the score on a goal by Nick Castillo, assisted by Cain Grosbeck and Alex Gordon.  In the third Fox scored their second of the game and the lead, however the Indians mounted a late charge when Grant Wickham scored from Castillo and Tommy Cahill, then Kevin Bostwick scored on a pass from Jack Swan on which turned out to be the game winner.  Gabe Rosek took the win between the pipes.

 

The Indians return home next weekend to take on. Belle Tire at the Taffy Abel Arena, 9am and 3pm Saturday, 10 am Sunday.

Grizzlies wrestle two games from the Indians

This weekend the Indians met up with the 30th ranked Oakland Grizzilies for two MAHA Tier 1 games battling hard but fell twice by the score of 4-2.  Saturday both teams battle through the first period with no score, then early in the second Jack Swan buried a shot, set up by Seth Francois to take the lead.  Oakland battled back to tie the game 6 minutes later then took the lead late in the second.  In the third the Grizzlies added another for a two goal lead, but with the net empty Chase Tallaire got the Indians back within one goal with 57 seconds remaining, assisted by Alex Gordon, however with the net still empty and Indians pressing Oakland manage to gain control of the puck and scored with 2 seconds remaining for the 4-2 win.  Gabe Rosek stopped 40 shots in a losing effort for the Indians.

On Sunday Oakland took the early lead in the first period and added another in the second before PJ Donnelly broke the ice to the get the Indians back within one goal, assisted by Grant Wickham and Jack Swan, then midway through the third Swan scored on a shot just over the blue line to knot the score at 2 all.  After that the Grizzlies scored two unanswered goals for the 4-2 win a sweep for the weekend.  Logan Raffaele was between the pipes for Indians turning away 31 Oakland shots during the game.

The Indians will regroup and get back on the road next weekend to take on Fox Motors in Grand Rapids.
