Indians fall in a heartbreaker to Gilmour Prep Academy

In the opening game of the Motor City Showcase Gilmour Prep struck early in the first period to take the lead, however the Indians fought back to even the score on a Kobie Guidebeck power play goal set up by Chase Tallaire.  Two minutes later Guidebeck stole the puck on a penalty kill and set up Cain Grosbeck in all alone on the Gilmour netminder to score the second goal for the lead.  Both teams went up and down the ice in a face paced game trading scoring opportunities, but with 12 minutes left Gilmour tied the score on a power play of their own, then scored on another power play with 2 minutes remaining for the eventual game winning goal.  With the Indians pressing for the tying goal the puck came loose to the Gilmour player for a breakaway and a fourth goal to secure the win.  Logan Raffaele played outstanding in net for the Indians

The Indians take on the Colorado Tigers at 11 am, then face Team Indiana at 630.

Castillo’s late goal secures the weekend sweep for the Indians

Sunday mornings game proved to be a tight checking game as neither team could score in first period, in the second the Spartans got on the board banging home a rebound in front of the Indians net for the early lead.  Both teams exchanged scoring chances throughout the second period with no luck, in the third with six minutes remaining Grant Wickham took a pass from Logan Millhausen and Alex Gordon on the right wing and beat the Spartan netminder to even the game a one goal a piece.  With seconds ticking down Nick Castillo took a pass at center ice from Wickham and went in on his backhand and beat their netminder over the shoulder with 22 seconds remaining for eventual game winning goal.  Gabe Rosek turned away 20 shots to preserve the win for the Indians who now sit with a 7 win 4 loss record early in the season.

Next action will have the Indians back on the road to Detroit for the Motor City Showcase, with their first game against Gilmour Prep Academy Friday night.  Saturday games will see them face Team Indiana and Colorado Tigers, finishing Sunday against the Sylvania Northstars.

Soo skates past the Spartans 5-1

Saturday evening the Indians continued on scoring two goals in the first period, first Logan Millhausen scored on a shot from the wing set up by Seth Francois and then Max Povorozniouk scored after Francois set him up in front.  The second period was much the same as they added two more on goals by Kobie Guidebeck, who beat the goalie coming out of the corner, assisted by Grant Wickham, then Francois scored one of his own from Jack Swan and Kevin Bostwick to give the Indians a 4-0 lead going into the third period.  Alex Gordon added the fifth goal on power play in the third set up by Tommy Cahill, however the Spartans broke the shut out with 1:59 remaining, however Logan Raffaele shut the door to secured the win in net for the tribe.

Both team will return to the ice at the Taffy Abel 10 am for the third game of the series.

Indians open the weekend with a 7-1 win over the Tri State Spartans

The Indians opened their three game series against the Tri State Spartans coming out victorious 7-1.  The Indians opened the scoring in the first period when Dylan Bott scored on a shot, set up by Cain Grosbeck, then Jaden Martin tipped a shot by Rob Landis past the Spartan netminder, Chase Tallaire also assisted on the goal. Tallaire added a goal of his own late in the period from Logan Millhausen and Nick Castillo to give the Indians a 3-0 lead through one period.  In the second Grosbeck took a long pass from Landis to spring him in on the net for the fourth goal and Millhausen scored on a power play after being set up by Seth Francois and Kevin Bostwick.  The Spartans got on the board in the third period, however the Indians fought back when Tallaire stole the puck from Spartan defenseman to go in alone and beat the netminder for the sixth goal.  Castillo scored late in the third to finish out the scoring from Grant Wickham and Max Povorozniouk for the 7-1 win.  Gabe Rosek was between the pipes for the win.

The second game of the series will be played 530 pm tonight at the Taffy Abel Arena on the Campus of LSSU.

Indians finished the NAPHL showcase with a 5-1 win over the Minnesota Magicians

Sunday had the Indians facing the Minnesota Magicians in final game at the Showcase, the Indians opened the scoring when Logan Millhausen scored from Tommy Cahill, the Magicians evened the scoring on power play late in the first period.  After that the Indians pressed hard, Grant Wickham scored from Cain Grosbeck, and Jaden Martin added another from Chase Tallaire and Kobie Guidebeck for a 3-1 lead.  In the third Rob Landis scored on shot from the point set up by Grosbeck and Kevin Bostwick finiished out the scoring on a set up by Tallaire.  Gabe Rosek shut the door in net for the win.  The Indians finished the Showcase with 3 wins and 1 loss.

 

The Indians return home to the Taffy Abel arena on Saturday and Sunday against the Tr State Spartans from Indianapolis Indiana.  930 and 530 Saturday 10 am Sunday morning.
