Indians down Honeybaked then fall on Sunday in a Shootout
This weekend the Indians traveled to Farmington HIlls to take on Honeybaked in MAHA league action. Saturday the Indians set the tone early in the first period when Dylan Szabo found a lose puck in front of the Honeybaked net and made no mistake putting it in for the 1-0 lead. In the second Eli Doughardt-Wood joined the rush and put home a rebound on a shot by Bryce Grandbois, also assisted by Jack Mattais, to go up 2-0 midway through the second period. Drew Miotke got on the board for the 3rd Indians goal set up by Grandbois and Mattais. In the third Will Boyer took a pass from Mattais and broke in on the net beating their netminder for the 3-0 lead, then Miotke stole the puck while on a penalty kill and set up Colin Goff for a short handed goal. Honeybaked managed to break the shutout late in the third, however Michael Szlag converted on a nice three way pass from Szabo and Robbie Zimmerman and Bryce Grandbois completed the scoring from Boyer and Colin Handy to solidly the 7-1 win. Logan Raffaele took the win in net.
On Sunday things started the same as Dylan Szabo scored from Robbie Zimmerman and Michael Szlag, however Honeybaked came back to the even the score midway through the second period. Late in the second Colin Goff scored his second shorthanded goal of the weekend to put the Indians up 2-1 heading into the third period, Dylan Bott had the assist on the goal. Honeybaked evened the score at 2 midway through the period and from that point on neither team could capitalize on their chances for the winning goal. Overtime played out the same and the game was decided in a shoot out with Honeybaked scoring two and the Indians only one. Logan Raffaele played excellent in a losing effort.
The Indians return to the Taffy Abel Arena next weekend to take on Compuware, Saturday at 5pm and Sunday at 10am.
