Indians open the State Championships with a win over #1 seed Victory Honda 4-1

The Indians came determined to make their mark and stick to their game plan against Victory Honda and took advantage of some hard forechecking when John Pesek jumped a loose puck that Chris Hazen had worked out of the corner and put a shot over the Honda goalie to open the scoring and kept a 1-0 lead through the first period.  Early in the second Ashton Calder won the battle in front of the net banging home a lose puck that was assisted by Hazen again, Honda responded with a goal of their own quickly to get back within 1.  Chris Hazen decided it was time for him to score a goal for himself at the 10 minute mark from Blake Mastaw and Drew Goupille, Mike Miller finished out the scoring in the second period from Cole Lussier and the teams went to the dressing room after the second period with the Indians up 4-1.  In the third CJ Boothe shut the door on Victory Honda and the Indians took the win.  Boothe played outstanding in the net and the entire team played excellent to secure their first win of the tournament.

The Indians will now faceoff tomorrow against the Oakland Grizzilies in second game of the Round robin portion of the tournament.

Indians end the regular season on a winning note downing the Madison Capitals 5-2

The Indians completed the weekend sweep over the Madison Capitals 5-2 to close out the regular season.  On Sunday Chris Hazen opened the scoring after he worked the puck out of the corner and beat the Caps goalie, less that a minute later Blake Mastaw put the puck past their goaltender from Ashton Calder and Hazen for a 2-0 lead.  The Capitals got one of their own to get back within one goal and the period ended with the Indians up 2-1.  In the second period Kyle Yates broke in over the line on a powerplay and put a shot over the goaltenders shoulder for a 3-1 lead assisted by Mike Miller and John Pesek, Madison answered back less than a minute later.  Late in the second period Ashton Calder scored on a breakaway on a beautiful pass from Trevor Jestadt and Triston Theriot for a 4-2 lead.  With 6 minutes remaining Drew Goupille threaded a shot from the point past the netminder assisted by Brenden MacLaren and Brendan Miller for the Indians 5th goal.  Brandon Gordon took the win in net.  The Indians finished the regular season with a record of 35 wins 17 losses and 5 ties.

The Indians travel to Detroit Wednesday to play in Michigan Amatuer Hockey State Championship.

Indians down the Madison Capitals 5-2 in game one of the weekend series

Indians top the Capitals 5-2 in the first game of the weekend series.  The Capitals opened early on a goal in the first period to go up 1-0, however early in the second Chris Hazen worked the puck out of the corner and scored with the assist going to Ashton Calder.  The Caps came back to take the lead 2 minutes later but 5 minutes into the second period Brenden MacLaren set up Landon Hubbard for the tying goal and with 4 seconds remaining Drew Goupille shot from the point and Evan Augustine tipped the shot to score to send the Indians into the dressing room with a 3-2 lead through 2 periods, Kristian Jackson had the other assist.  In the third the Indians came out with a little more jump and early into the period Ashton Calder set up John Pesek in the slot and he buried a shot to go up one more goal on the Capitals.  Blake Mastaw had the other assist on that goal.  Later in the third Mike Miller worked the puck out of the corner and put a nice shot over the Caps goaltender to give the Indians and 3 goal lead and the game ended 5-2 Indians.  CJ Boothe took the the win and net.

Both teams with square off at 11 am Sunday at the Pullar Staduim.

Indians are State Championship bound with a 5-4 overtime win over the Lansing Capitals

In a Closely fought game between the Indians and the Lansing Capitals Landon Hubbard scored with 19 seconds remaining in the first overtime to advance to the Michigan Amatuer Hockey Championships the first week of the March.  The Capitals jumped out to a 1-0 lead early in the game but Evan Augustine went on a scoring terror in the first period scoring at the 14:17 mark from Mike Miller and Kristain Jackson, then again at the 5:59 mark from Mike Miller and Jackson again.  He was finished there and scored his natural hatrick at the 4:06 mark from Triston Therit and Jackson to give the team a 3-1 lead, Lansing wasn't done yet and came roaring back to tie the game in second period.  Augustine collected his fourth goal of the game assisted by Theriot and the teams went to the dressing room with the Indians up 4-3.  Early in the third period Lansing evened the score and the game ended tied at the end of regulation and the game went to a 10 minute overtime.  Both teams had excellent chances in an up and down fast paced action however Landon Hubbard took a pass from Brendan MacLaren and Ethan St.Germain and cut in over the blue line and put a shot over the Capitals goaltender for the overtime winner.  The Indians advance to the State Championship for the second year in a row.

The Indians play at home next weekend against the Madison Capitals at 6pm at the Taffey Abel arena and again at 11am Sunday at the Pullar Staduim.

Indians come up short against the Capitals falling 3-2

The Capitals started quick and jumped out to a 2 goal lead early in the first period, until Triston Theriot scored from Ashton Calder and Blake Mastaw to get back within 1 goal.  The Cap's regained the two goal lead in the second period and maintained it till late in the third period when Cole Lussier scored from Hubbard to get back to within 1 goal, however they couldn't get the tying goal and fell 3-2.  CJ Boothe took the loss in net.  

Both teams will faceoff tomorrow at 1:15 to decide who will get the chance to play in the State Championships.
