Indians take the first game of the play ins 3-2 over Lansing

In the first game of the State play ins for the State Championships the Indians prevailed 3-2.  Lansing scored first in the opening period but Tristion Theriot evened the scored in the first period on a nice shot from the top of the circle assisted by Nick Skaluba and Trevor Jestadt.  The Indians took the lead later in the period on a goal by Cole Lussier assisted by Jestadt again.  Lansing evened the score again midway through the second period however John Pesek scored what would be the eventual game winner late in the period on a shot from the point assisted by Mike Miller.  Both teams battled through the third period however neither could score and the Indians took the win to go up 1-0 in the series.  Brandon Gordon took the win in net.

Both teams will go back at it tomorrow at 430 for the second game of the best of 3 series.

Indians complete the sweep over the Michigan Warriors with a 3-1 win

Sunday's rematch turned out to a hard fought game between the teams, In the first period the Indians put 16 shots at the Warrior netminder but only Evan Augustine was able put the team on the board when Nick Skaluba shot from the point and got behind the Warrior goaltender and looked as if it was going when Augustine assure that it would make the net, Mike Miller had the other assist on the first goal.  In the second period John Pesek threaded a shot from the point on a power play to go up 2-0 assisted by Landon Hubbard and Augustine, the Warriors fought back and scored at the 7:41 mark of the second period to get back to within 1 goal.  Both teams traded great scoring opportunities in the third period, however with the Warrior goalie pulled Cole Lussier blocked a shot from the point to go in uncontested and put the game away for a 3-1 win.  CJ Boothe played exceptional in the pipes for the win.

The Indians now sit with a record of 31 wins 16 losses and 5 ties heading into the State Playdowns next weekend in Kalamazoo where they will face the Lansing Capitals in a best 2 out of 3 series to advance to the State Championships in March.  The first game will be a 3:45 Friday at the Wings West Stadium and second on Saturday at 4:30.  Sundays time will be determined if needed.

Indians down the Michigan Warriors 9-1

In the Indians return to the ice after a weekend off it took them a while to get back sharp playing sloppy first period as both teams skated to a 0-0 tie through one period.  In the second Ashton Calder opened the scoring on a power play assisted by Kyle Yates to break the ice, Zach Satalino won the battle in from of the net on the second power play to find the back of the net to put the Indians up 2-0, assisted by Landon Hubbard and John Pesek.  The Warriors got on the board to get back within 1, however from that point on the Indians poured on the pressure scoring two more goals before the end of the period, first Nick Skaluba stepped up and rifled a rebound past their goaltender from Mike Miller and Chris Hazen, then Landon Hubbard finished the scoring in the period from Brenden MacLaren and Brendan Miller.  The third started quick with Cole Lussier scoring from Satalino and Trevor Jestadt, then less than a minute later Jestadt scored from Lussier.  Hubbard then blocked a shot while killing a penalty and went down on a breakaway to score a shorthand goal, the scoring continued when MacLaren lite the lamp from Hazen and Skaluba.  Brendan Miller finished out the scoring in the third period assisted by MacLaren for a 9-1 score.  Brandon Gordon made several great saves to keep the Warriors off the board in a winning effort.  Both teams return to the ice Sunday morning at 10am at the Pullar Staduim.

Wednesday's game vs the Soo Thunderbirds has been cancelled

  Due to injuries on the Soo Thunderbirds, the game scheduled for Wednesday night has been cancelled.  The Indians will be off this upcoming weekend then return to action at home against the Michigan Warriors 7pm Saturday and 10am Sunday at the Pullar Staduim.
