Indians beat the CP Dynamo from New York 5-2

In their final game of the Belle Tire/Victory Honda Showcase the Indians found some scoring touch and downed the CP Dynamo 5-2.  The Indians opened the scoring in the first period on a shot by Brenden MacLaren assisted by Brendan Miller and Nick Skaluba.  The Dynamo evened the score late in the period to send the teams to the dressing room tied at 1 a piece.  Early in the second the Dynamo jumped out to a lead on powerplay, however less than a minute later Ashton Calder scored from Cole Lussier and Triston Theriot, they weren't finished yet and Evan Augustine threaded a shot inside the post assisted by Zach Satalino and John Pesek to end the period with the Indians up 3-2.  In the third they added to their lead when Kristian Jackson scored on a rebound assisted by Trevor Jestadt and Ashton Calder scored his second of the game from brendan Miller and MacLaren to complete the scoring for the 5-2 win.  CJ Boothe played great in the net to earn the win.

The Indians will take on the Soo Thunderbirds Wednesday night at 7:30 at the Big Bear Arena.

Columbus Blue Jackets down the Indians 4-1

Columbus lived up to their ranking and opened the scoring in the first period capitalizing on their opportunities to gain a 2-0 lead.  In the second period the Indians picked up their play and finally scored when Ethan St.Germain jumped on a loose puck and put a shot behind the Blue Jackets goalie, Kyle Yates and Trevor Jestadt assisted.  Both teams played even the remainder of the period, in the third after several opportunities to tie the game Columbus picked up the puck on an odd man rush and score to push the score to 3-1.  The Indians continued to try and get within one, however with goalie pulled the Blue Jackets scored an empty net goal to seal the teams fate.  Brandon Gordon played exceptional in net in a losing effort.

The Indians will now play CP Dynamo at 4:45 at the Taylor Sportplex.

Indians go one and one on the opening day of the Victory Honda/Belle Tire Showcase

In the opening game of the tournament neither team was able score in the first two periods of the  game.  In the third the Indians had their chance however Hill Academy capitalized on a turn over at the 11:55 mark to score on a breakaway, this ended up being all they needed and the game ended 1-0 in thier favor.  Brandon Gordon played outstanding in the net in a losing effort. 

In the second game the Indians put together a better effort to take a win over the Ontario Avalanche from California.  Both teams played even through the first period, in the second Ashton Calder opened the scoring on a nice rush assisted by Ethan St.Germain.  Chris Hazen split the Avalance defense and put a nice shot over the goaltender shoulder for a 2-0 lead assisted by Evan Augustine, the scoring continue when Kristian Jackson scored on a rebound on shot from Kyle Yates and the teams went to the dressing room with the Indians up 3-0.  In the third Ontario scored to get within two,  however the Indians closed out the game and took the 3-1 win.  CJ Boothe played outstanding in net for the win.

The Indians return to action tomorrow morning against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Indians sweep the Electro's in Marquette

In the first of a two game series the Indians scored quick and often jumping out to a three goal lead in the first period.  Landon Hubbard opened the scoring assisted by Brenden MacLaren, later MacLaren scored from Brendan Miller and Hubbard.  Kyle Yates finished out the scoring in the first period assisted by MacLaren.  The Indians added to their lead in the second with eight more goals, Cole Lussier opened the second period scoring on a powerplay assisted by Nick Skaluba, Hubbard scored his second midway through the second period from Brendan Miller.  Mike Miller got on the board unassisted one minute later, then Blake Mastaw scored unassisted quickly from the draw, Lussier got his second on the game at the 3:35 mark from Ashton Calder.  Hubbard completed his "Hatrick" from MacLaren and Yates, then Trevor Jestadt added to the lead assisted by Kristian Jackson.  Cole Lussier added his third goal for his "Hatrick" with 1.9 seconds remaining in the second period from Mastaw and Calder to take the Indians to the dressing.  The scoring continued in the third with Chris Hazen getting on the board from Mike Miller, then Evan Augustine scored from Hazen.  MacLaren scored his second of the game to finish out the scoring from Brendan Miller to cap off the 14-0 win.  Brandon Gordon took the win and shutout in the net.

Sunday's game was a bit tighter through two periods until the halfway mark of the third period when the Indians found their scoring touch.  Cole Lussier scored unassisted to open the first period scoring, then Nick Skaluba scored unassisted to give the the Indians a 2-0 lead, the Electicians broke the ice late in the first to get a goal and  the first period ended 2-1.  In the second Ashton Calder scored the only goal assisted by Kyle Yates and the teams team went to the dressing rooms with the Indians up 3-1.  Both teams played even through the midway mark of the third period until the flood gates opened and the Indians scored six unanswered goals, Lussier scored his second of the game from Blake Mastaw and Ethan St.Germain, less than a minute later Brenden MacLaren scored from Brendan Miller, Zach Satalino got on the board from Evan Augustine and Kristian Jackson.  John Pesek scored from Kyle Yates and 20 seconds later Blake Mastaw scored from Pesek and Yates, Trevor Jestadt finished out the scoring from Drew Goupille to solidify the 9-1 win.  CJ Boothe took the win in net.

The Indians currently sit with a record of 26 wins, 14 loses, and 5 ties.  Their next action will be at the Victory Honda/Belle Tire showcase in Detroit this upcoming weekend where they will faceoff against Hill Academy from Toronto, Ontario Avalanche from California, and the number 3 ranked team in US, the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Indians finish the Silver Sticks Tournament with a 4-0 win over the Toronto Marlies

The Indians finally found their scoring touch in the fourth game of the tournament to post 4-0 shut out over the Toronto Marlies.  They started fast and mounted continous pressure until the 10:09 mark of the first period when Kristian Jackson scored from Zach Satalino and Trevor Jestadt.  In the second period while killing a penalty Mike Miller picked off a pass and light the lamp to put the Indians up 2-0, late in the second on a power play of their own Ethan St.Germain scored from the point assisted by Nick Skaluba and Ashton Calder.  Blake Mastaw finished out the scoring in the third period beating the Marlies goaltender while killing of a penatly for another shorthanded goal.  CJ Boothe was called on to make several outstanding saves and was up to the challenge taking the win and shut out in net.

The Indians travel to Marquette to take on the Electricians on January 24th and 25th.
