Indians capture the cross border challenge with a 3-2 win over the Thunderbirds
In the six game series between the Soo Indians and Sault Ontario Thunderbirds the Indians capture the series on 3-2 win on Wednesday night. In close series between the two teams in which they tied twice and the Indians winning two the fifth game was no different. The teams played evenly throughout most of the first period until the 16:09 mark when Brenden MacLaren scored, assisted by Landon Hubbard and Brendan Miller to take the lead, however the Thunderbirds came right back 14 seconds later to even the score in the first period. In the second period Hubbard beat the Thunderbird goalie to retake the lead again assisted by Miller and MacLaren and the period ended with the Indians up 2-1. In the third period the Thunderbirds knotted the score at the 9:55 mark, both teams continued to work towards the winning goal and with the draw in the Thunderbird end Ashton Calder won the draw back to John Pesek who scored on his shot from the point with 39 seconds remaining in the third period to take the win for the Indians. CJ Boothe played exceptional in the net for the Indians to earn the win. With one game remaining in the series the Indians lead the series with 3 wins and 2 ties.
The next action for the Indians will be Saturday night against the Lansing Capitals at 7pm at the Taffey Abel Arena and on Sunday 11am at the Pullar Stadium.
