Indians capture the cross border challenge with a 3-2 win over the Thunderbirds

In the six game series between the Soo Indians and Sault Ontario Thunderbirds the Indians capture the series on 3-2 win on Wednesday night.  In close series between the two teams in which they tied twice and the Indians winning two the fifth game was no different.  The teams played evenly throughout most of the first period until the 16:09 mark when Brenden MacLaren scored, assisted by Landon Hubbard and Brendan Miller to take the lead, however the Thunderbirds came right back 14 seconds later to even the score in the first period.  In the second period Hubbard beat the Thunderbird goalie to retake the lead again assisted by Miller and MacLaren and the period ended with the Indians up 2-1.  In the third period the Thunderbirds knotted the score at the 9:55 mark, both teams continued to work towards the winning goal and with the draw in the Thunderbird end Ashton Calder won the draw back to John Pesek who scored on his shot from the point with 39 seconds remaining in the third period to take the win for the Indians.  CJ Boothe played exceptional in the net for the Indians to earn the win.  With one game remaining in the series the Indians lead the series with 3 wins and 2 ties.

The next action for the Indians will be Saturday night against the Lansing Capitals at 7pm at the Taffey Abel Arena and on Sunday 11am at the Pullar Stadium.

INDIANS DOWN THE MADISON CAPITALS 4-3 IN THE FINAL GAME OF THE WEEKEND

The Indians started fast against the Capitals and scored first when Landon Hubbard put a shot through traffic assisted by Mike Miller and Drew Goupille. Less than a minute later Kristian Jackson scored from Zach Satalino and Nick Skaluba to take a two goal lead. Satalino scored in the second stanza from Trevor Jestadt and Jackson making it 3-0. Madison finally scored to cut the lead to two, however, Brenden MacLaren beat the Caps goalie up top.   The goal was assisted by Brendan Miller sending both teams to the dressing room after two periods with the Indians up 4-1. In the third both teams had chances but could not capitalize early, with time running down and the Madison Capitals upping their tempo, the Indians were forced to kill off three continous penalties.  Madison scored two goals to cut the lead to one, however, the team settled down.  The team continued to dig in, blocking shots, and playing defensively, to close out the game and gain the win. Brandon Gordon took the win in net. The coaching staff was pleased with the two road wins.  The team will be back in action Wednesday night against the Soo Thunderbirds at the Big Bear Arena.

Indians double up on the Chicago Young Americans 4-2

In the second game of the Wisconsin road trip the Indians found their legs and some scoring touch to take a 4-2 win over CYA.  Both teams battle through the first period scoreless until the 13:34 mark of the second period when the Young Americans took a 1-0 lead, the Indians battle back and Trevor Jestadt scored on passes from John Pesek and Ashton Calder to tie the game.  Less that a minute later Landon Hubbard scored on a nice pass from Evan Augustine to take a one goal lead, however CYA didn't quit and came right back to tie the game again. Late in the second period the Indians lite the lamp twice, first Pesek put a shot over the CYA goaltenders shoulder after he had joined the rush and took a nice pass from Brenden MacLaren and Brendan Miller, to take the lead again, with 14 seconds remaining Cole Lussier drove the net and snuck one by the CYA goaltender to take a two goal lead into the dressing room, assisted by Calder.  In the third both teams played a tight checking style and neither team added to the score.  CJ Boothe took the win in the net for the Indians.

The Indians will conclude the road trip with a rematch against the Madison Capitals tomorrow morning at 11am.

Madison downs the Indians 5-0

In the first game of 2015 the Indians couldn't get anything going offensively and fell 5-0 to the Madison Capitals.  Both teams played even in the first period that ended 0-0, in the second however the Indians couldn't get going and the Capitals took advantage jumping out to a 4-0 lead through the end of 2 periods.  In the third the Indians found a little life could break the shutout while the Caps got one more goal.  CJ Boothe was in net in a loosing effort.

The Indians return to action Saturday morning when they face off against the Chicago Young Americans at 12pm at the Capitals Ice Arena in Madison, WI

Lussier & Yates called to duty in the NAHL

Two players hailing from the Soo Indians Midget AAA are starting their AAA holiday break off on the right foot as they were both called up for NAHL duty tonight. 

Kyle Yates (D), an affiliate player with the Janesville Jets, is skating in the match tonight versus the Michigan Warriers. 

Cole Lussier (F) has been called up to play for the Soo Eagles organization.  He will ice tonight as the Eagles face the Minnesota Wilderness. 

Mike Kaunisto, GM of the Soo Indians Midget AAA, says, "I'm very proud of both of these players and they certainly deserve this opportunity to showcase their skills and show promise as they strive to move on in their hockey careers."
