Indians lose a heartbreaker to the Michigan nationals 2-1 in overtime

In a very physical game the Indians came up short in overtime. The Nationals scored in the first period and carried the lead all the way until the third period when Alex Williams scored to even the score at 1, assisted by Blake Mastaw and Evan Augustine. Regulation time ended with both teams 1 a piece. The Nationals struck early in the overtime to take the win. Brandon Gordon played excellent in net, but took the loss. The Indians finished the weekend with one win, two ties, and an overtime loss. Overall a good weekend for the team and we continue to move forward.

Next action for the Indians will be Saturday and Sunday in Flint against the Michigan Warriors.

Indians Battle to a 4-4 tie with MDHL

The Indians opened strong, pressing MDHL and one minute thirty seconds in Mike Miller banged in a rebound with assists going to Blake Mastaw and Ethan St.Germain to open the scoring. MDHL answered back to tie the game up. In the second period the Indians opened up a two goal lead on goals by Brenden MacLaren assisted by Ashton Calder and Nick Skaluba and then Mastaw scored from John Pesek and Kyle Yates. Late in the second period MDHL closed to within one and the teams went to the dressing room with the Indians up 3-2. In the the third MDHL came out flying and jumped out to a 4-3 lead, with the goalie pulled and the Indians mounting continuos pressure Pesek buried a shot from the point with 23 seconds remaining to tie the game at 4 all assisted by Cole Lussier and Calder. CJ Boothe played excellent between the pipes.

The Indians will play later tonight in the quarter finals.

Indians top Team Ohio 3-1 in the second game of the tournament

The second game started the same as the first game with Team Ohio jumping out to a 1-0 lead early in the first period and kept it till the 2:29 mark when Triston Theriot scored from the point on a powerplay assisted by Brenden Miller and Kyle Yates. Ashton Calder put the Indians ahead with one minute remaining in the second on a pass from Cole Lussier. The Soo continued to press the Ohio team and at the 4:31 mark Mike Miller scored an insurance marker to put the game away assisted by Josh Delaney. Brandon Gordon stopped 25 shots to take the win in net. Coach Caricatto felt that even though we won and tied today that the team has to play better and be more accountable to moved forward this season and our best players need to be our best players game in and game out.

The Indians take on the MDHL tomorrow 1145 at the Compuware arena.

Indians open the Honeybaked/Compuware with a 3-3 against the Michigan Nationals

In the first game against the Michigan Nationals the Indians opened slow giving up a quick goal, but came back fighting and at the 3:37 mark Ashton Calder converted on a power play assisted by Kyle Yates and John Pesek to tie the game. Two minutes later Nick Skaluba scored on a shot from the point assisted by Brenden MacLaren to take the lead through the first period. In the second period the Nationals knotted the score, however Calder scored his second power play goal to regain the lead from Cole Lussier and Pesek. The Nationals scored their third late in second period to make it 3-3 and both teams played even through the third to end in a tie. CJ Boothe stopped 27 shots to take the tie in net.

The Indians second game will be against team Ohio at 630 Compuware arena.

Indians put together 54 solids minutes of hockey for a 7-3 win over West Michigan

In the Sunday morning rematch the Indians came out firing pucks at the Hounds goalie. In the first period it was the Zach Satalino show, scoring the first of his two goals at the 3:54 mark assisted by Chris Hazen and Brendan Miller then again unassisted four minutes later. Ashton Calder stripped the puck from the Hounds defenseman and buried a shot past their goalie with 8 seconds remaining in the period to take a 3-1 lead into the dressing room. At the start of the second period the Indians put together a text book passing right from the face off and Brendan Miller buried a shot over the shoulder of the goaltender to go up 4-1 14 seconds into the period, assists going Satalino and Kyle Yates. The hounds answered back to get within two but Alex Williams picked up a rebound and put in the back of the net to go back up three assisted by Yates and Evan Augustine. In the third period West Michigan scored early but after that the Indians took over and Calder scored his second of the game assisted by Brenden MacLaren and Yates. In the final minutes Maclaren scored a power play goal from Satalino and Cole Lussier to seal the win. Brandon Gordon took the win in the net, next action will have the Indians traveling to Detroit to play in the Compuware/Honeybaked Invitational.
